Born August 7th 1941 in Casablanca, Hamidi lives and works between Azemmour, Casablanca and Grasse, in the South of France. He is considered as a Modern Art precursor in Morocco. In 1959, he moved to France and enjoyed Paris’ bohemian lifestyle. There, Hamidi assiduously frequented numerous museums and galleries. In 1964, he graduated from the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He became the Assistant of artist Jean Aujame who was famous for his frescos. Back in Morocco, Hamidi taught at Casablanca Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he worked under the supervision of Farid Belkahia. In 1969, he participated in Jemaa El Fna popular exhibition in Marrakech with Belkahia, Melehi or Chebaa : the greatest Modern artists in the country gathered to make painting more accessible to the largest number of Moroccans possible. Hamidi is a member of the Moroccan Association for Fine Arts. Mohammed Hamidi has always been interested in representing the woman’s sensuality as well as African symbols.
