Solo Show I Amina Agueznay I Field Work

25 October 2024 - 2 January 2025

FIELDWORKS offers a unique immersion into Amina Agueznay’s research, experimentation, and the collective craftsmanship that shapes her approach. Through her extensive research conducted with master artisans from across Morocco, this exhibition pays tribute to creative encounters and the participative process.

Agueznay has the remarkable ability to ally excellence in craft and to reveal untold stories and beliefs, reinterpreting them into new artistic narratives. Whether redefining a traditional weaving technique or evolving complex ancestral patterns into eloquent minimalism, she balances form and volume with a refined sense of harmony. Her decentralized studio spans the four corners of Morocco, tapping into the diverse skills and knowledge of each region, a process she calls “collecting territories,” as her work pays homage to the land and translates its rich heritage into contemporary visual language.

Regardless of the project’s scale, Agueznay always transmutes the experience of space into a poetic interaction. Moving from the intricate—almost intimate—work of jewelry-making to monumental installations, her own body becomes the vehicle for her spatial approach. As the scale of her projects grows, so does her physical engagement: delicate hand movements give way to full-body contortions. She works with materials steeped in history, requiring a rigor and meticulousness that ground the artist in a state of constant humility.

The commitment to creating modular units is a hallmark of her artistic language. Sometimes interconnected, sometimes functioning individually, the modules represent parts of a larger whole, played out in multiple acts. This correlation between projects highlights the importance of continuity and community throughout the artist’s body of work.
