FotoFest has chosen Karin Adrian von Roques from Germany as the main curator of the Biennale. Ms. von Roques is known for her work over the past 20 years in introducing contemporary Arab art to international museums and galleries around the world. She will collaborate with Wendy Watriss, co-founder of FotoFest and senior curator, to organize the 2014 Arab exhibitions.
The Arab artists of the FotoFest 2014 Biennale address issues ranging from regional specificity to global dimension. The themes are multiple and address fundamental issues from an internal perspective, by Arab artists who live and work in the region.
"The exhibitions are not intended to make the curator's voice heard," said Ms. von Roques. "They are about the artists and what is important to them. The diversity of the works that we will exhibit during the Biennale is not easy to classify, as we have not imposed any other objective on the project than to show the best contemporary work from the region that we have been able to find.”
