We are delighted to present at 1-54 Marrakech the works of the three artists : Amina Agueznay, Joanna Choumali and Mous Lamrabat. The overall effect of this treble exhibition is an exaltation of lightness, simplicity, and inner peace. Inspired by experiences of heritage, these three artists use textiles as a point of departure to highlight cultural or geographical references, the intangible heritage of place.
Lamrabat envelops his subjects in shimmering cloth, juxtaposing drapery against arid landscapes and the deep blue sky. Scenes of quiet solitude, and unbridled futurism.
Choumali demonstrates her technical mastery with her “Albahian” series of photographic works —layered with tulle and embroidered with gold—that capture the light, sublimating moments of stillness. Elegant silhouettes in pearly white stand before pink-orange sunsets, or the headlamps of a taxi, drawing us into the spatiality of the image and its material. Shimmering.
Amina Agueznay takes us to the oasis with her “Portals” series, an eco-exploration of a thousand-year culture. Woven in virgin wool and talefdamt (palm husk), these monumental works awaken our senses. A synesthetic experience that transports us to the smell of the palm
grove, the colours of the ksar and the oasis beyond, the heat of the sun.
